Change of Management, Keith Dowds becomes the New Managing Director at Carnival Maritime
Hamburg, April 6th, 2020 - Dr. Hermann J. Klein, Executive Vice President/Managing Director of Carnival Maritime GmbH in Hamburg, has officially left the company for personal reasons effective April 1st. His successoris Andrew Keith Dowds, currently Senior Vice President Marine Operations at Carnival Maritime.
As Managing Director, Dr. Hermann Klein was in charge of all marine operations of the Costa Group: nautical and technical operations, environment and safety, port operations and development, and ship newbuilds. Klein, who studied naval architecture and holds a doctorate in engineering, has decades of experience in the shipping industry. He joined Carnival Maritime in September 2018.
Hermann Klein has left the company for personal reasons. “We greatly regret Hermann’s departure and would like to thank him for all the good work he has done with driving determination, passion and competence. With his extensive knowledge, strategic foresight and energy, he has addedgreat value to our company and inspired our employees. We wish him all the best for the future,” said Michael Thamm, Group CEO Costa Group & Costa Asia.
Hermann Klein was replaced on April 1st by Keith Dowds, currently Senior Vice President Marine Operations. Originating from Norther Ireland, Keith has worked for Carnival Corporation for more than 30 years, the last four of those with Carnival Maritime. Keith Dowds started his seagoing career in 1981 on board BP tankers, whilst studying for his Nauticalqualifications. He joined P&O Cruises in 1990 and was appointed Captain in 2005 serving as Master for 8 years and Fleet Captain for 2 years. After coming ashore in 2015 to shore management, he has held roles both within Carnival UK for P&O Cruises and Cunard operations and latterly within Carnival Maritime.
Through his 30 years within Carnival Corporation, he has been involved directly in multiple aspects of cruise ship operations, safety management, Marine HR, newbuildings and senior shore management roles. “We are delighted to have found in Keith Dowds a successor whose comprehensive expertise ensures continuity. I am certain that he will take Carnival Maritime GmbH into a successful future, even beyond the very dynamic current situation,” said Michael Thamm.
